TrekMap Community Guidelines and Acceptable Use Policy

TrekMap is for sharing places you've been and places you dream about. These guidelines apply everywhere in TrekMap — pins, photos, trips, journals, comments, profiles, messages, usernames, and anything you ask our AI features to make. They're part of our Terms of Service.

#The short version

Be real. Be kind. Protect people's privacy — including your own. Credit creators. Don't put anyone in danger.

#Don't post or share

  • Anything illegal, or that promotes illegal activity.
  • Child sexual abuse material or any sexualization of minors. Zero tolerance. We remove it, ban the account, preserve evidence, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as the law requires.
  • Sexually explicit content, or intimate images of anyone shared without their consent (including AI-generated or altered images). To report intimate images of yourself, use trekmap.co/report-intimate-images — you don't need an account.
  • Harassment, bullying, threats, or hate speech, including attacks based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or serious disease.
  • Violent, graphic or shocking content, or content that supports terrorism or violent extremism.
  • Content that promotes self-harm, suicide or eating disorders.
  • Other people's private information — home addresses, precise locations, phone numbers, documents or private messages — without their consent. Don't post photos of identifiable people in private situations without their permission.
  • Impersonation of a person, brand or organization, or misleading claims about who runs an account.
  • Spam, scams and fraud: fake deals, phishing, pyramid or referral schemes, bulk unsolicited messages, engagement farming.
  • Content that infringes copyright, trademark or other rights. Only post media you made or have the right to share; when you save a place from someone's post, keep the credit and link intact.
  • Dangerous or illegal travel content: encouraging trespassing on closed or protected sites, damaging cultural or natural heritage, disturbing protected wildlife, or activities likely to get someone seriously hurt.
  • Regulated goods: sales of drugs, weapons, or other regulated products.
  • False information that can cause real harm, such as invented entry requirements, fake safety warnings, or fabricated prices.

#Don't do

  • Use bots, scrapers or automated tools on TrekMap, or collect other users' information in bulk.
  • Create fake accounts, evade a ban, or run multiple accounts to manipulate likes, votes, leaderboards, challenges or referrals.
  • Use contacts matching to harvest information about people.
  • Use TrekMap to track, follow or monitor someone, or share someone's location or travel plans without their consent.
  • Misuse reporting tools to silence people.
  • Push AI features to produce anything on the "don't post" list, try to make them ignore their limits, or use them to get at other people's private information.
  • Break into, overload or test the security of our systems without permission (report vulnerabilities to support@trekmap.co).
  • Use TrekMap for unsolicited commercial promotion without our written permission.

#Sharing locations safely

  • Photos can reveal where you live, work or stay. Use Friends only, Private or Approximate location for places near home.
  • Don't post another person's home or regular locations, even in a trip you're proud of.
  • Before turning on the AI trip planner in a group chat, tell the group — everyone's messages get read while it's on.
  • TrekMap doesn't verify who anyone is. Use your judgment before sharing plans or meeting anyone from the app, and meet in public places.

#Reporting

  • Use the ⋯ menu on any pin, trip, comment, profile, message or AI result to report or block.

  • If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
  • Content reported by several people may be hidden automatically while we review it.

#What happens when these guidelines are broken

Depending on what happened and whether it's a pattern, we may remove content, limit who can see it, restrict features, suspend or terminate the account, preserve evidence, and — where the law requires or someone is at risk — contact the authorities. We generally tell people when we act on their content and you can appeal to support@trekmap.co within 30 days.

We update these guidelines as TrekMap grows.
